Gmail on your Nokia: mail as usual

December 28th, 2007 by Patrice

I like having my mail while I’m on the go. And I like it even better when I can have the same mail client for everything. And if on top of that I can use the pre-installed mail client from Nokia I’m totally happy.

I know it’s not the best mail client, it’s not the smartest nor coolest, but hey, I’m lazy and don’t want to install extra mail clients that take up memory and resources if there’s a decent standard application installed (here’s another opinion).

The mobile web-client of Gmail is pretty, but useless, because it is painstakingly slow to browse it on a cell-phone and you don’t get notifications out-of-the-box.

I just configured my Gmail account (here are the instructions) and enabled the automatic retrieval. So now, if I get a new message on Gmail, I get notified within minutes. I know it’s sad: it’s a Nokia not a Blackberry so I don’t get the mail notification immediately. And boy do I feel frustrated about that (not!) ;)

BTW: if you want push e-mail you can try Emoze, it’s free push e-mail (for personal use) for mobile devices. Haven’t tried it myself yet, as I said I’m lazy :)
